HOWARD BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP
PERSONAL CONCERNS
Peter 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
AGITATED
____________
Jesus John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Paul Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
ANGRY
____________
Paul Ephesians 4:26 "In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27. and do not give the devil a foothold. 28. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.
James James 1:19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20. for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
BEREAVED
____________
Paul 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
David Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Paul 1 Corinthians 15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52. in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
55. "Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?"
DEPRESSED
____________
David Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the LORD;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2. He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3. He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the LORD.
David Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19. A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;
DISCOURAGED
____________
Jesus John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Moses Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
FEARFUL
____________
Psalm 112:7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8. His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
David Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.
FEELING INFERIOR
____________
Moses Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Jesus Mark 12:29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: `Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31. The second is this: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
Paul Romans 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5. so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
FRUSTRATED
____________
Hebrews 10:35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Isaiah Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
4. Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
GUILTY
____________
John 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
The LORD Isaiah 44:22 I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,
your sins like the morning mist.
Return to me,
for I have redeemed you."
The LORD Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, let us reason together,"
says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.
Paul Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
IMPATIENT
____________
David Psalm 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
James James 5:7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.
INSECURE
____________
Paul Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
The LORD Isaiah 41:13 For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
Hebrews 13:6 So we say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
INSULTED
____________
Jesus Matthew 5:43 "You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45. that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Jesus Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11. "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
JEALOUS
____________
James James 4:13 Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." 14. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." 16. As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil.
Psalm 49:16 Do not be overawed when a man grows rich,
when the splendor of his house increases;
17. for he will take nothing with him when he dies,
his splendor will not descend with him.
LONELY
____________
David Psalm 4:8 I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for you alone, O LORD,
make me dwell in safety.
The LORD Isaiah 54:10 Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Jesus John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
PAIN
____________
Jesus Mark 14:36 "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
Paul 2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Paul 2 Corinthians 12:7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
SICKNESS
____________
David Psalm 41:3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed
and restore him from his bed of illness.
James James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Paul Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
SUFFERING and DEATH
____________
Jesus John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26. and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Paul Philippians 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21. who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Paul Romans 8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
TEMPTED
____________
Paul 1 Corinthians 10:12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
James James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
13. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14. but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Hebrews 2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. 16. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
TIRED
____________
Jesus Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Isaiah Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
WORRIED
____________
Isaiah Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
4. Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
Peter 1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Jesus Matthew 6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31. So do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32. For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
